Hello, my name is

Martina Whyte

I am deeply connected to our community. My children attended local primary schools in Glasnevin, with many friends across the Cabra-Glasnevin area. As a parent to teenage and adult children I am acutely aware of the issues and concerns facing parents and young people. Frustrated with current representation, I offer practical experience and a commitment to improving our community’s well-being.

My Priorities

Local Issues

As a Glasnevin Village Residents Association committee member, I address local issues. I am proposing improvements for St Mobhi Boithrín and pushing DCC to resolve long-standing concerns like parking, litter collection, road cleaning, and drain clearance. Additionally, I aim to secure community funding for local initiatives.

Supporting Our Active Retirement Community

I advocate for diverse events for Glasnevin’s active retirees, promoting initiatives that offer engaging, inclusive activities. These events foster social connections and enhance well-being, ensuring a vibrant community. I am dedicated to providing enriching opportunities for our retired residents.

Safer City

I love Dublin city centre and advocate for its safety. I will collaborate with local Gardaí to expand community policing and enhance crime prevention. More patrols are essential to ensure Dubliners can enjoy a vibrant and secure city life.

Safe Spaces for Women

I advocate for safe, supportive environments for women and girls, ensuring access to dedicated spaces for their well-being. I support maintaining fair, safe competition in women’s sports. My commitment is to prioritize women’s rights and safety, upholding these principles in all initiatives.

Housing Emergency

The Housing Commission’s report reveals a deficit of 256,000 homes in Ireland, condemning current housing policies. This crisis drives emigration and unaffordable living for renters. I will push for emergency actions to increase affordable housing, streamline planning, and support sustainable development to ensure safe, secure homes for all Dubliners.

Immigration

As a Dublin City Council candidate, I advocate for sustainable, fair immigration policies. We must support vulnerable Dubliners and genuine asylum seekers while opting out of the EU Migration and enforcing immigration control. I will ensure local communities are consulted and promote balanced policies to maintain a compassionate, orderly immigration system.

Revitalising Dublin’s Georgian Buildings for Residential Use

Dublin needs 256,000 homes. To address this, I propose converting vacant Georgian buildings into residences, preserving our architectural heritage. By incentivizing landlords and tenants to vacate and renovate, and relocating office leases to vacant spaces, we can create sustainable housing. I will champion this initiative on Dublin City Council.

Arts and Culture

I am committed to preserving and promoting our cultural heritage. By protecting historical sites, supporting local artists, and ensuring thriving cultural events, we maintain Cabra-Glasnevin’s vibrant spirit. I support Dublin City Council’s management of Smock Alley Theatre, securing its future, jobs, and accessibility, thus fostering Dublin’s arts and culture.

Preservation of Dublin City

I am dedicated to preserving Dublin’s historical landscape and unique charm while managing development. By balancing growth with conservation, we can prevent the influx of generic chains and ensure our city remains distinct and vibrant.

Sport

As a supporter of the Save Tolka Park campaign, I back refurbishment for Tolka Park, Dalymount, and Richmond Park. With rising League of Ireland attendance and fantastic atmospheres, more investment is needed. I will advocate for funding to promote inclusive sports participation, especially for girls, fostering healthy, active lifestyles.
