Parking in Glasnevin Village has long been a significant challenge for our residents. The frustration of finding parking spaces occupied by non-residents—whether they are city workers, hospital staff, or visitors—is a daily reality. Streets such as St. Mobhi Drive, St. Mobhi Grove, Ballymun Road Lower, St. David Terrace, Church Avenue, and Glasnevin Hill are frequently congested, making it nearly impossible for residents and short-term visitors to find a legal parking spot.
This congestion affects everyone:
- Residents struggle to find parking near their homes.
- Visitors find it difficult to access our beautiful village and its amenities.
- Those attending appointments at the local hospital face parking challenges.
- Participants in church services and shoppers at village stores are also impacted.
By addressing these parking issues, we can significantly improve the quality of life for our residents and the experience for our visitors.
Recent Efforts and Ongoing Challenges
In an effort to address these concerns, Dublin Corporation confirmed that parking enforcement will be stepped up, which is a step in the right direction. However, other proposed parking schemes remain on hold, pending progress on the BusConnects project. This delay underscores the need for immediate and innovative solutions to our parking woes.
My Commitment to Resolving Parking Issues
If elected, I am committed to taking proactive steps to resolve the parking challenges in Glasnevin Village. Here’s how I plan to tackle this issue:
Enhanced Parking Enforcement: I will work closely with Dublin City Council to ensure that the promised increase in parking enforcement is implemented swiftly and effectively. This includes regular monitoring and ticketing of non-resident vehicles occupying spaces for extended periods.
Resident-Only Parking Zones: I will advocate for the introduction of resident-only parking zones in critical areas. This will help ensure that residents have priority access to parking near their homes.
Short-Term Visitor Parking: I will push for designated short-term parking spaces in key locations such as near the church, and local business, and shops. This will make it easier for visitors to find parking and reduce congestion.
Community Consultation: I will engage with residents to gather input and suggestions on parking improvements. Your insights are invaluable in creating solutions that work for everyone in our community.
Collaboration with BusConnects: While the progress of the BusConnects project is beyond our immediate control, I will ensure that parking concerns are dealt with effectively. Efficient public transportation should complement, not complicate, our parking infrastructure.
I urge all residents to continue voicing their concerns and suggestions. Please give me your #1 Vote in the Local Elections for the Cabra-Glasnevin LEA on June 7th. Together, we can advocate for a more efficient and resident-friendly parking system.
Parking is not just a logistical challenge; it impacts our quality of life and the accessibility of our village amenities. With your support, I am dedicated to making Glasnevin Village a more convenient and pleasant place to live, work, and visit.
