The National Women’s Council of Ireland (NWCI) is supposed to be a defender of women’s rights. However, recent actions and decisions have revealed a disturbing betrayal of the very women they claim to represent. It’s time to address these issues head-on and advocate for genuine representation that truly supports the interests of women and girls in Ireland.
The Erasure of Women and Mothers
One of the most alarming developments is the NWCI’s lobbying efforts that seem to undermine the unique identities of women and mothers. By pushing policies and narratives that blur the lines between biological women and individuals who identify as women, the NWCI has contributed to the erasure of the distinct experiences and needs of women and mothers. This is not just a matter of semantics; it affects the allocation of resources, the framing of policies, and the support systems designed specifically for women.
Questionable Leadership Decisions
The inclusion of a man identifying as a woman on the NWCI’s executive board is another significant concern. While it is essential to support and respect all individuals, the primary mission of the NWCI should be to advocate for the needs and rights of biological women. This decision raises serious questions about the council’s commitment to its core constituency and whether it can adequately represent the specific challenges faced by women and girls.
Misleading the Public During the Referendum
During the recent Referendum, the NWCI’s actions and statements were misleading to the public. They presented information that not only misrepresented the facts but also swayed public opinion based on falsehoods. This breach of trust is unacceptable from an organisation that is supposed to uphold the highest standards of integrity and honesty in its advocacy.
Red Flags and the Need for Change
These issues are just a few red flags indicating that the NWCI is no longer fulfilling its mandate to advocate for the true interests of women and girls. As a result, many women feel betrayed and are calling for a re-evaluation of the support and funding the NWCI receives.
Supporting True Women’s Advocacy
It’s time to shift our support to organisations that genuinely represent and fight for women’s rights. Two such organisations are the Natural Women’s Council and The Countess. Both are committed to addressing real issues affecting women without the influence of misleading ideologies. The Countess, in particular, has been a vocal advocate for safeguarding the rights of women and girls, emphasising the importance of preserving our cultural heritage and ensuring women’s voices are heard and respected.
I had the pleasure of marching with The Countess at the rally in February, and their commitment to the cause is truly inspiring. Meanwhile, Jana Lunden at the Natural Women’s Council is fighting the good fight on many fronts. She is addressing critical issues such as the administration of puberty blockers to children, the inclusion of highly inappropriate children’s books in libraries, and the indoctrination and sexualization of children through the school’s SPHE curriculum. These efforts are essential to protecting the well-being of our children and ensuring that our educational systems uphold the highest standards of integrity and respect for childhood.
Defund the NWCI
The National Women’s Council of Ireland has shown through its actions that it is no longer a champion of women’s rights. It’s crucial for the women of Ireland to demand accountability and support organisations that genuinely represent their interests. Defunding the NWCI and redirecting support to groups like the Natural Women’s Council and The Countess is a necessary step towards ensuring that the voices of real women are heard and respected.
It’s time for a new era of advocacy—one that stands firmly with women and girls, addressing their unique needs and challenges with honesty and integrity. By supporting organisations like the Natural Women’s Council and The Countess, we can ensure a brighter, more equitable future for all women in Ireland.
